The Bergamo Cathedral Museum<\/strong> is located in the basement of St. Alexander’s Cathedral<\/strong> and offers several solutions to ensure access for all visitors.<\/p>\n

REACH<\/h3>\n

Parking:<\/strong> A parking lot with a reserved parking space equipped with cobblestone pavement is available 250 meters from the museum in Hay Market Square.<\/p>\n

Public transportation:<\/strong> The Upper Funicular Station is 230 meters away, with one of the two cabins accessible by stairlift.<\/p>\n

Footpath<\/h3>\n

The pedestrian approach path<\/strong> is uphill, with a gradient of 7-9%. The paving is porphyry slats laid in a herringbone pattern, but there is a lack of tactile-plant markings.<\/p>\n

ENTER<\/h3>\n

Accessible<\/strong> entrance: The accessible entrance is located about 120 meters from the main entrance. Phone notice is required to be given to have it opened. Access is through the Canons’ Courtyard<\/strong>, which can be reached from Mario Lupo Street.<\/p>\n

Ticketing area<\/strong>: It is not accessible, but a platform stair lift with a capacity of 250 kg is available to access the elevation of the exhibition space.<\/p>\n

VISIT<\/h3>\n

Exhibition Route<\/h3>\n

The exhibition route is entirely walkable. The modest gradients are all connected with slides. The objects and explanatory panels are clearly visible. There are no specific accouterments for the blind, but some objects can be touched. 3D models of the ancient churches and audio guides are planned.<\/p>\n

Toilet Facilities<\/h3>\n

There is no bathroom for the public inside the museum, but it is affiliated with the existing public bathrooms in Old Square. Parking:<\/strong> A parking lot with a reserved parking space equipped with cobblestone pavement is available 250 meters from the museum in Hay Market Square.<\/p>\n

Public transportation:<\/strong> The Upper Funicular Station is 230 meters away, with one of the two cabins accessible by stairlift.<\/p>\n

The pedestrian approach path<\/strong> is uphill, with a gradient of 7-9%. The paving is porphyry slats laid in a herringbone pattern, but there is a lack of tactile-plant markings.<\/p>\n

Accessible<\/strong> entrance: The accessible entrance is located about 120 meters from the main entrance. Phone notice is required to be given to have it opened. Access is through the Canons’ Courtyard<\/strong>, which can be reached from Mario Lupo Street.<\/p>\n

Ticketing area<\/strong>: It is not accessible, but a platform stair lift with a capacity of 250 kg is available to access the elevation of the exhibition space.<\/p>\n

There is no bathroom for the public inside the museum, but it is affiliated with the existing public bathrooms in Old Square. Hidden Treasures of the Cathedral<\/h3>\n

The heart of the museum itinerary is the Treasure of the Cathedral<\/strong>, a collection of precious objects that have been treasured over the centuries. Prominent among them are reliquaries, chalices, monstrances and sacred vestments of inestimable artistic and spiritual value. These objects testify to the wealth and devotion of the Bergamasque community over the centuries.<\/p>\n

Archaeological Excavations: A Journey into the Past<\/h3>\n

From the 1st century BC to the 4th century AD, the area was occupied by a Roman-style district, adjacent to the forum, crossed by a commercial road overlooked by shops, artisan workshops and residential domus<\/em> with rich architectural and decorative features. The excavations have brought to light mosaic floors, frescoes, remains of columns and other architectural elements that testify to the grandeur and refinement of the ancient Roman city<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Early Christian and Romanesque Cathedral<\/h3>\n

In the 5th century, a Cathedral<\/strong> dedicated to San Vincenzo<\/strong> was built. The dimensions of the basilica<\/strong> were imposing: it measured no less than 45 meters in length by 24 meters in width and was the largest sacred building in the city. The line of the perimeter walls of this structure has been maintained in the subsequent building phases and corresponds (excluding the eastern side of the presbytery) to the perimeter of the current church. The Cathedral Museum<\/strong> tells the articulated history of this evolution, through archaeological finds and artistic artefacts.<\/p>\n

The heart of the museum itinerary is the Treasure of the Cathedral<\/strong>, a collection of precious objects that have been treasured over the centuries. Prominent among them are reliquaries, chalices, monstrances and sacred vestments of inestimable artistic and spiritual value. These objects testify to the wealth and devotion of the Bergamasque community over the centuries.<\/p>\n

Archaeological Excavations: A Journey into the Past<\/h3>\n

From the 1st century BC to the 4th century AD, the area was occupied by a Roman-style district, adjacent to the forum, crossed by a commercial road overlooked by shops, artisan workshops and residential domus<\/em> with rich architectural and decorative features. The excavations have brought to light mosaic floors, frescoes, remains of columns and other architectural elements that testify to the grandeur and refinement of the ancient Roman city<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Early Christian and Romanesque Cathedral<\/h3>\n

In the 5th century, a Cathedral<\/strong> dedicated to San Vincenzo<\/strong> was built. The dimensions of the basilica<\/strong> were imposing: it measured no less than 45 meters in length by 24 meters in width and was the largest sacred building in the city. The line of the perimeter walls of this structure has been maintained in the subsequent building phases and corresponds (excluding the eastern side of the presbytery) to the perimeter of the current church. The Cathedral Museum<\/strong> tells the articulated history of this evolution, through archaeological finds and artistic artefacts.<\/p>\n
