The celebrated musical Anastasia, with its consistently incredible numbers, makes a stop at ChorusLife with its new tour. An unforgettable theatrical experience that leaves the audience with bated breath until the last scene in a whirlwind of emotions.
“ANASTASIA, the Musical” has established itself as the Italian Musical of the year thanks to the continuous sell-outs recorded in major Italian theaters. The play, brought to the stage by an extraordinary cast and directed by director Federico Bellone, has been able to win the hearts of a wide and varied audience, evidenced by the record numbers achieved in major Italian cities.
Particularly appreciated by both audiences and critics was the performance of Sofia Caselli, Anya on stage in which we glimpse in the first act, a determined, young woman in search of the truth about her roots and her past; in the second act, a proud noblewoman, with regal bearing. The performer unveils her interpretative charisma not only in the already well-known songs from the film (Quando viene dicembre, Cuor non dirmi no), but especially through the new songs from the musical, translated by Franco Travaglio, from which the emotionality of each character shines through.
With the magic of live music directed by Maestro Giovanni Maria Lori, who conducts unforgettable songs such as “When December Comes” or “Journey to the Past,” ANASTASIA, the Musical transports viewers to an era of pageantry, mystery and passion to follow the story of Anya, a young woman who could be Grand Duchess Anastasia, the sole survivor of the tragic end of the Romanov family. A gripping adventure, amid political intrigue and twists and turns, it succeeds in creating a new life for the story’s characters on a journey toward truth and love with an exciting score composed by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens.
The story is inspired by the legend of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. It is 1916 and from St. Petersburg begins the incredible adventure of Princess Anastasia, the young daughter of Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia. These are the years of the Russian Revolution that inflames the squares and the spirits of the people and will soon mark the tragic end of the glittering atmospheres of palace parties and the entire Romanov dynasty. Surviving the assaults are the Empress Mother and her young granddaughter Anastasia. A few years later, we find Anya, now a young woman with no family or memories, ready to embark on her own personal journey away from the orphanage in which she grew up, on the road that will take her to Paris, to the dream of discovering her own identity and, above all, to love. Along her journey, Anya meets Dimitri and his friend Vlad, two sympathetic con men looking for a look-alike of the princess to present to the Empress Mother in exchange for 10,000 rubles; together they travel to Paris to claim the inheritance that is rightfully Princess Anastasia’s.
Anastasia is not just a musical, but an unforgettable theatrical experience that leaves the audience with bated breath until the last scene in a whirlwind of emotions, including love, mystery and hope.
